Welcome to Asociación EducArte’s website! We are a collection of people with a common dream of a better and more just world for all; we dedicate ourselves to the creation of a space for difference of opinion, action, and thought; we are EducArte, and we take education seriously!

The Asociación EducArte: In Brief

Asociación EducArte is a locally-run Guatemalan non-profit organization founded in 2002 by Alejandra Hernandez and a group of friends who share a similar life philosophy.  EducArte promotes social justice via education, effective social programs, and active civic participation.  The majority of our services focus on supporting families that face severe socio-economic limitations, providing social services not otherwise accessible in Ciudad Vieja, Sacatepéquez.  In short, EducArte strives to support the community from what we believe is the foundational base: curricular and comprehensive education.

EducArte receives 70 students daily who attend regular classes based on a government-approved curriculum and extra-curricular classes focused on art and life skills. Educational opportunities are not limited to children; literacy courses—as well as activities that foster active participation in the community—are offered to any interested adults on weekends.  EducArte also promotes various educational activities outside of the school to help raise awareness on critical issues in the community.

EducArte strives to promote a culture of peace, understanding, and respect for social, cultural, political, and economic differences; it embodies tolerance and provides a space for meaningful exchange and freedom of expression.  At its core, EducArte believes that everyone has the right to an education, and all are united by a vision of a better and more just world for all.
